My Speech

August 21st, 2008

On the 19th of August I did my speech. It was very nerve racking. I did my speech on the one child policy but as I got into it didn’t seem so nerve racking. Here is my speech Have you ever thought what is like to be under the one child policy? Having to pay fines, having your child stolen, wanting a boy instead of a girl, being a man not married. These are just some of the sad things about the one child policy. The one child policy is a population control policy of the people’s republic of China. If you were a boy from China you probably wouldn’t have a wife and mothers would have forced abortions to have a boy instead of a girl. They only made the one child policy because the Chinese government thought that there were to many people in China. Thousands of Chinese children go missing each year. Some get Found many don’t. According to the website Uygur.org, another aspect of the policy is its alleged “forced intermarriage” policy. The government has sent Chinese girls to marry Uyghur men since 1990. These Uyghur men were forcibly separated from their Uyghur wives and were forced to marry Chinese girls. Heavy fines exist if an Uyghur man attempts divorce from his Chinese wife. Rural Sichuan roadside sign says “it is forbidden to discriminate against, mistreat or abandon baby girls.” Most Chinese people still discriminate against, mistreat and abandon baby girls. I choose this topic because I Thought that the one child policy is a bad thing but it could also be a good thing because if there was no one child policy china might Be over loaded with people. But having forced abortions, having to pay fines, having a birth permit and even Sometimes having your house taken off you. So in conclusion I think the one child policy is a good thing for people in China but not for people in other countries. The only bad thing is the fines, forced abortions and sometimes having Your house taken off you. How would you like these things to happen to you, your family, friends and especially your child. I hope you enjoy my speech and please leave a post!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also if you have any more ideas for this peech please tell me.

Chapter 2

July 31st, 2008

“Rachel,” her mum said “her name is Rachel and she is your your your, sister, twin sister. I am sorry sweetie but I never wanted to hurt you or her.” Rosemary was standing looking stunned when she shouted “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME MUM? YOU COULD HAVE KEPT HER, WHY DIDN’T YOU KEEP HER?” Her mum was scared when she whispered “because I didn’t know if we could keep her without your dad. It was her or you.” Rosemary went silent while she was thinking to herself how could she I want my sister back.

While Rosemary’s mum was getting tea ready, Rosemary was packing some of her things into her schoolbag. When her mum called her to dinner Rosemary went down stairs and pretended to be her happy old self but her mum know she wasn’t. Instead of eating her tea Rosemary was putting her tea into a little container with a lid so she could take it with her.

Find out next week where Rosemary is going in Chapter 3.

Chapter One

July 25th, 2008
Once upon a time in a far of Hollywood there lived a girl named Rosemary and her mum named Rose. Rose had two daughters but the girls were separated at birth. The two girls have never known that they have a twin sister because one lives in far of Hollywood and the other New Zealand.

The other twins name is Rachel. Rachel is more like their dad who died before they were born. She is a real dare devil and loves bungy jumping and animals while on the other hand Rosemary is like no one in her family because she liked netball and boys!!!

While Rosemary’s mum was talking to her agent Rosemary was looking through her baby stuff and found a picture of her twin and herself looking happy. When her mum had finished on the phone Rosemary asked “Who is this mum,” showing her the photo. Her mum looked dead and snatched the picture off her and said “don’t worry about this sweetie.” But Rosemary thought about it for ever. When one day she said to her mum “WHO IS THIS MUM TELL ME NOW.” Rosemary’s mum looked stunned.

Wait till next week for Chapter 2!!!

Also if you have any help for me post a comment. I am soooo looking forward to speeches Not!!! Here are some of the ideas

There are better role models than sports ’stars’.
Modern China – A better way of life for everyone!
Tibet is part of China, and always has been!
An Olympic boycott is necessary to reveal the ‘real’ China to the world.
The Olympic Games is the best thing that could happen to modern China?

We asked a bunch of kids and they ended up being in our group but then I didn’t want all of them in our group. So they all went and found a new group. So now it is me and Alex. It is going to be very embarrassing just me and Alex. If you are involved in any kind of dance please tell me because I would be very interested to know.

My auntie Sarah with my cousin is coming as well as my best friend Jennifer and my mum’s friend Diane and my brother’s friend Rob. We are going to take the fishing rods so we can go fishing (stinky). My mum is also taking our two bikes so we can bike around and down to the sea as well as the diary. For the second week of the holidays I am going up to my untie Sarah’s house it is going to be so cool! She lives on a farm up in the king country. Every time we go there we always go to The Lavender Farm for hot chocolates.

Cooking

June 9th, 2008

For tech arts we have been doing food it is so cool. So far I have made a smoothee, pizza snacks, wedges, banana cake and hot potato savouries. On Tuesday we are having a boil up and all we have to bring is one potato. If you want to learn some recipes go to ultranet.teawamutuint.school.nz and then go to Technology food technology and then you will see them down the side of the page. This is my favourite thing at school because I want to be a chef when I am older. My friend Alex is going to work with me when we have this food thing where you invite your parents to come and test your food!

Winter Games

June 9th, 2008

On the 6th of June we had winter games. It was so cool. I played karatu ball tag it was kind of like dodge ball. My team won all of our games and got all of our bonus points. While the other team in Puniu won two of them and tied because the other team was cheating. We had games like basketball, netball, karatu ball tag, soccer, rugby and many others. When I was playing my second game I stood in poo! Today we got told the final score it was so nerve racking. Puniu and Mangapiko were the last to be said then Mangapiko second Puniu first. Two kids in my house went and got the shield because our house captions went there!

Elephants

June 9th, 2008

Elephants are mammals they are also the largest land animal! When fully grown at 25years they are the 2nd tallest animal after the giraffe. There are two different types one of them is the African elephant and the other is the Asian elephant. They both can live up to be 65 years old!

An elephant has the best memory that can sometimes last up to when they were born! Their small brown eyes are protected by big giant eyelashes. They have very good eyesight but are colour blind. Their wrinkly grey skin is 2-4cm thick. They have very sensitive skin and the wrinkles keep them cool. They keep them cool because the trapped water evaporates slowly and then starts to cool them down. They have all different ears kind of like the human hand print. Their ears are very good at hearing. The trunk is the most important sense of all. The trunk is the elephant’s nose so they can breath out of it like us.  But unlike us humans the elephant picks up its food and sucks up liquid using its trunk. Their tusks are really their teeth and continually keep growing until they are 1.5 metres long. They weigh about 45 kilograms. They are made out of a hard creamy-white substance called ivory. Their tusks are useful for things like digging, fighting, feeding and lifting.

The African elephant is the biggest elephant at 2-4 meters tall and can weigh 7500 kilograms. Both females and males have tusks. The Asian elephant has smaller ears and the upper edge is curled forward. They are endangered and only the male has tusks.

Elephants live in all sorts of places like in the dessert, safaris, mountains, tropical forests, Africa, India and Southern Asia. They live in family groups called herds and they all protect the young. They have short naps for 2-4 hours a day. They can sleep standing or lying. Elephants are herbivores and in the wild they eat things like grasses, leaves, roots and shoots. They usually eat for about 20 hours and eat up to 250-330 kg a day. In captivity they eat hay, oats, potatoes and some meat.

Elephants communicate to each other by trunk touch each other, make noises like a trumpet sound, a bellow, a cry and a snort. When an elephant is in danger they flap their ears against their head and then the herd gathers. They are endangered because of ivory poachers and forests being cut down. Elephants are very good swimmers. When they are under the water they use their trunks as a snorkel!

Anzac Day At Otorohanga and Kawhia

May 2nd, 2008

On the 25th of April I went with my grandad and the Te Awamutu Highland pipe band to Otorohanga for the Anzac Day parade at 1o am. It was a very long parade and heaps of people talked as well as a high-school student. At the end of the ceremony a lot of people put really cool wreaths on the monument. On the way up and down they played The Brown Haired Maiden, The Green Hills of Tyrol, When the battle is Over, Scotland the Brave and lots lots more. About 12pm we left for Kawhia and it was kind of the same except it wasn’t as long as Otorohangas one. At the start when they were getting warmed up there was a group of kids listening and going up and then running away because it was to loud for them. My grandad and Kathy said even if I am not playing next year I can still walk with because I will have my uniform. After we got back to Te Awamutu we went to the R.S.A to play a few tunes and have tea. After the band played I met grandads sister she is really cool. It was such a fun day I cant wait till next year when I’m playing with them.

Kainga Aroha Community house

May 2nd, 2008

On Thursday 24th April I got to go with Kainga Aroha Community house to Rotorua Aquatic Centre. When I got to the Kainga Aroha Community house I made a new friend named Emma. On the way we stopped of at a place where there was a calf, some chickens, a goat and a ostrich. At the pools there was a pool that was like a river. All you had to do was relax and you got taken around. Also there was a rocket and you had to run across it and try to get to the other side and there was a tramp were you could bounce off it and land in the pool. Outside the pools but still in the area there was some buckets and a rainbow and some other things that had water coming out of them. The buckets got filled up with cold water and then they tipped and all the cold water came out it was freezing. It was a very tiring day though!!!!!

Ohope Christian Camp

April 15th, 2008

people high ropesfriendscamp photo    high ropes

DAY ONE

On Tuesday 8th rooms three and seven went to Ohope Christian camp. We stopped of at Lake Okataina on the way to have lunch and for a short walk around to the spit. After lunch we all left for camp it was about an hour before we all arrived. Everyone was glad to be out of the cars after the long hours drive. We all made our beds and explored the campsite after everyone had explored the campsite we made off for the beach. At 5:30 we went to the Whakatane Aquatics Centre for a swim. We were allowed to go on the hydro-slide but it was far to slow for me. We all went to bed around 9:00.

DAY TWO

Today room three went to the high ropes and the “Amazing Maze in Maize” while room 7 went fishing, kayaking and a walk to Shelly bay. The high ropes were really fun and high these are some of the names: the trapezes, walking across logs in mid air, swing from tyre to tyre in mid air and lots of others. Before we hit the high ropes we had to do some trust exercises. After about two hours we stopped and went to the maze it was so fun. My group gave up after we went to the haunted house. There was a little pig and dog at the maze. We had a walky talky, a map, two pieces of paper one with pictures and the other with questions. It was so much fun but I was very tired out from one day! We all started heading back to camp after a long day’s fun. At 5:30pm we set of for the Whakatane Aquatics Centre for another swim. This time the hydro-slide was a lot faster then the first day! One of the pools were really deep and no one could touch the bottom.

DAY THREE

Today room three went fishing, kayaking and a walk to Shelly bay. My group went kayaking first it was so fun. Kenny taught us how to kayak. We played heaps of games with Kenny like one when we had to try and get one of the rugby balls and through them at the opposite side to get them out until their team mates got them with a paddle. I jumped into the water to get the ball and it was cold! After we got back we all jumped into the showers. After everyone had their showers we set of to Shelley bay it was a long tiring walk but it was worth it. We had lunch on the beach and went for a wander. Some people in my group told me to eat a raw pipi. So I did it was gross!!!  Later on in the day we all set of for the Awakeri Hot Pools they were awesome. We were allowed to buy some lollies at the shop while we were there. When we turned up the Hot Pools weren’t that hot but as it got later it started to get warmer. At the Hot Pools we had a barbecue it was yummy!! It had been a long day and we all started heading back to camp. As soon as we got to camp we all got ready for bed. (Yawn)

DAY FOUR

It was the last day of camp everyone was getting ready to go home. All the rooms’ had to be spotless all of our things had to be packed and ready to be put in the trailer. We had breakfast and last minute things then set of towards home. On the way we stopped off at subway and got lunch then went Te Puke Park. We all left and arrived at school around 2:00pm.

 My Opinion

It was one of the best camps I have ever been on!!!!

The Rules of netball

March 27th, 2008

The rules of netball are that you can not step with the ball because you have to give the ball to the other team and you can not bang into other people or else you have to stand beside. You have to have more than 7 players on your team because you swap with your team mates. these are the positions you can play wing defence, wing attack, goal shoot, goal keep, centre, goal attack and goal defence. If there are any other names that you call this game please feel free to tell me also this is what the court looks like

Netball

March 10th, 2008

“It was an improved day for New Zealand tranchise teams in the transtasman netball pre-season tournament in Sydney on Saturday. The Southern Steel beat the Queensland Firebirds 29-27; the Magic beat the New South Wales Swifts 27-22, while the Canterbury Tactix defeated the Melbourne Vixens 28-25. But the Magic and Tactix were both beaten by the West Coast fever 27-19, while Queensland also beat the Pulse and Mystic.” Who is your favourite team? Mine is the silver ferns. Not only because it is New Zealand’s team but because I have always wanted to be a silver fern.

Doors

March 4th, 2008

Last week we had to do poetic writing about doors. Mine was about a door with a light shining underneath it. This is what it said: I catch a glimpse of a mystery doorway with a bright light in the distance. I start walking and then I here a noise “thud thud thud”. I start sprinting; eventually I’m at the door.I get the key out of my pocket, it’s as rough as rock.Very quietly I put the key in the hole. I turn it right but it won’t work. Then very gradually I turn it left.Suddenly the light fades away and it seems the entire planet has gone to sleep.Slowly I reach my shuddering hand to the knob.Feeling the handle I get a humungous shiver up and down my backbone. It feels scorching hot like the boiling bright yellow sun shining down on me.
